The value of hypnotherapy for fertility
In the 2010 Red Magazine Annual National Fertility Report, couples were revealed to be prepared to spend an average of £15,000 on IVF, with one in 10 prepared to spend £50,000. This is unsurprising when one cycle of IVF costs £5,000 to £7,000 on average and most couples do two or three cycles.
Stress and fertility
When the body is put under stress, the brain sends the signal for cortisol and adrenaline to flood the blood stream, suppressing those systems of the body that aren’t necessary for survival and boosting those that are. Energy is diverted away from the delicate fertility system to be readily available to the heart, lungs and limbs. Essentially, your survival system ‘sees’ that as you are reacting negatively to something in your environment, you can’t be in the safest environment to protect yourself – let alone a child.
Infertility and your stress
The mental and physical stresses of trying for a baby include the stress that assisted reproduction and fertility drugs puts upon your body, the stress of not being pregnant, the stress of not knowing if you’re ever going to conceive and be a parent, the financial stress of finding the money for medical treatment, the stress at being surrounded by friends and family falling pregnant seemingly easily and the constant reminder that ‘time is running out’. When we are facing all this stress, it’s no wonder IFV has such low success rates.
How hypnotherapy can help
Hypnotherapy has been proven to be one of the most effective treatments to negate the effects of stress, restoring balance to your entire mental and physical system. If you’re relaxed and well balanced, your chances of successfully conceiving are significantly higher.
A small cost to pay
I believe that couples should always try the simplest, safest approach first before advancing to more complicated, stressful and expensive interventions. Spending less than £500 on hypnosis for fertility could be the best way to support your chance of conceiving, as well as boosting your chance of seeing that £15,000 worth of medical treatment result in the baby you’ve always dreamed of.
